Oil and Gas extraction industry - Developments due to ';green issue';?

I would like to know how the whole ';going green'; debate has affected an invasive industry such as oil and gas extraction. Are there any innovations that make it less invasive? Any regulations that companies can only extract so much? Do oil extracting companies follow a code of conduct?Oil and Gas extraction industry - Developments due to ';green issue';?
The ';green issue';. Interesting turn of phrase. Taken literally we would be back to the horse and cart and still worrying about methane emissions from the horse. We have to realise that if we want the benefits of progress we have to accept a downside. There isn't much in our lives that doesn't involve pollution of some sort or another. I agree that harmful pollution should be tackled with vigour, but this 'green' bandwagon has become ridiculous. The politicians see it as a vote catcher as there are many gullible voters who will support anything perceived to be 'green' without considering the implications.

Whoever coined the phrase 'carbon footprint' should be shot. It is the sort of 'holier than though' attitude that makes me sick.

Back to your question. How much extra would you be prepared to pay for your gas and electricity if the companies you refer to had regulation to cope with? Also why are you selecting out this type of industry? What about rain forest destruction? If you have ever bought or sat at a hardwood table and chairs, you are party to it.
