How much can I expect to pay for an oil pump replacement on a 95 Chrysler LHS?

I wouldn't buy it if I where you . Oil pumps rarely go out. if the car has low oil presser it is most likely heavy engine repair. Does the engine smoke when running or make noise? I really would advise you walk away from this one!How much can I expect to pay for an oil pump replacement on a 95 Chrysler LHS?
It's a bit of work to get to it. The pump itself isn't too expensive. I don't know what part of the country you live in, but I would estimate between $300 and $500.How much can I expect to pay for an oil pump replacement on a 95 Chrysler LHS?

Listen to Libby. That stuff is CRAP why would you want to breath those chemicals day and night. If they were in a manufacturing setting ....workers would be required to use a respirator when exposed to them
First of all glade plugins are dangerous.... they are fire hazards. I've seen a report that there have been several house fires that started from them... they get extremely hot and can start fires at the outlet.... I just use febreeze...

What's important to consider in choosing an replacement oil furnace?

We have plans to replace our oil furnace; it is old and inefficient. It is likely that we will stick with oil heat and the electric hot water heater that we already have, which is not too old.

What kinds of things do I need to think about in choosing a new oil furnace? What's important to consider in choosing an replacement oil furnace?
first, is it really a furnace, or is it a boiler? if you have hot air heat, it's a furnace, but many people with a boiler call that a furnace, too. if you have radiators and hot water heat, you've got a boiler, which is what i also have. that said, that is what i can give you some advice about. one thing to consider re; your electric hot water heater is, how much it costs you to heat your hot water with electricity. for not a lot more money, you can buy a boiler that will make hot water, while you heat your house anyways. depending on where you live, that's almost like free hot water, for better than half the year. this is called 'indirect hot water', and can pay for itself in just a few years. you'll have to replace your existing electric tank with a new holding tank, and your new boiler will have a second circulating pump on it, to circulate hot water thru the new tank for heating the water. it's kind of like having a radiator inside the new tank, that heats your hot water. as far as the new boiler itself, look into getting a cast iron boiler. two that i was impressed with were weil mclean, and dunkirk boilers. i would only buy a steel boiler, if money was a problem, or you were planning to sell the house within a couple of years, because they don't last as long as cast iron. also, check with fuel oil dealers in your area, most will finance the job at pretty good rates. good luck, hope this was of some help, and gives you some food for thought.

How can I make replacement oil for room diffuser?

I have one of those room diffusers with the oil that you put the little bamboo sticks into. The oil has now been used up, it only lasted for around six weeks. Since the government spends virtually nothing, and the oil monopolies won't say what they are spending and how they will maintain their position when it goes into use, you are looking for a number that at best would be a wild guess.

Many institutions and individuals are engaged in the research.

You could try distillations, solven extractions with acetone or other solvents to seperate amphipathics. Freezing separations. These will narrow down the class of molecules then you should be able to try HPLC, perhaps a C18 or C4 column.

  • Is it safe/effective to use butane for supercritical fluid extraction of cannabis oils?

My friend wants to make some blender hash but I've been wanting to try and make some blond hash for a while and I read a tutorial online that uses butane. My friend is a little wary about two things, he doesn't want to smoke butane, and he doesn't think it will extract the thc. I am asking A. will butane evaporate like alcohol if we let it sit out for a while, and will the leftover oil be safe to smoke, and B. will it even work? Is it efficient? Are we going to waste thc? are we even going to get any?Is it safe/effective to use butane for supercritical fluid extraction of cannabis oils?
The critical temperature of butane is 153C. You would have to heat the vapor at least that high. Also, you must compress the vapor to a few dozen atm to get a density of about 0.5g/mL. The extracted substance drops out of solution in the vapor when you release the pressure, so there is no need to ';evaporate'; the butane. It would be better to use supercritical CO2, because the critical temperature is only 31C.

I got a grant from the federal government for $12,000 in financial aid, see how you can get one also at http://couponredeemer.com/federalgrants/ Report Abuse

You really need to back up and look at this whole question with more breadth.

Solar cells produce electricity, not replace it. They replace other sources of electricity like coal, oil, hydro, etc. They do not work under trees or in cloudy or overcast weather conditions.

As the R%26amp;D has progressed, the costs of building, installing and maintaining has come down and the use has increased. As the expense goes down and efficiency goes up, more and more solar will be used.

If you can read the links shown in the 'Source' box and ignore the politics and bias about climate and being green, you can gain some understanding on the when and how solar and wind will progress to a greater and greater portion of electrical production.
Up front cost and lack of power lines to areas with vast open land areas and a high concentration of sun. Concentrated solar power (with mirrors)is cheaper than all but coal power. Only problem is most if the cost is in building the project (instead of spread out over 40 years of buying fuel). Enough energy can easily be stored for 2 days in molten salt storage facilities on site for night and cloudy weather use.
In reality, solar energy costs more money than to electric enegry and using natural gas. Instalkling a solar panel for you whole entire house costs over than you could afford a new plamsa TV set. The oils are fossil fuels, easier to get. Same to electrical enegry produced by wind power, water power, etc. other sources that produces these energy.
Where do U think our great supply of fossil fuel comes from. All energy comes from the sun and plants capture it in the process of converting CO2 to oxygen. The plants keep the C and it deteriorates to oil %26amp; gas. This happens all over the world and it is not just the trees but all plants. The plants capture the energy and converts it to oil ,which is stored nature puts the oil in its seed. Like olive oil and even the seed of grass.
if you covered the whole state of NV, we still could not power this country, then when the sunsets, what, we all just sit in the dark
It is being done but still manufacturing solar cells is quite expensive
Its all about the benjamins, when the big guys can make more from alternitive sources, oil will be illegal!!!

With the extraction of oil, what is the end result? ?

We use oil in engines to cool and maintain, however once we have exhausted this natural commodity, will it have any effect underground with tectonic plates, heat and the like? With the extraction of oil, what is the end result? ?
    Very interesting question.

The oil and gas extrated from underground wells is not like drawing water from a water well or getting water from a hand pump. The oil / gas is floating over water. It is enclosed in between non-porous rocks. When a hole is drilled gas / oil gushes out due to pressure of the gas. If it does not come out of its own water is pumped in to push out oil. Therefore, water takes up place of oil / gas and there vaccuum is not created. So collapsing of void (empty cavity) is unlikely as it does not exists as water fill up the empty space. With the extraction of oil, what is the end result? ?
No nothing like that, with oil we don't actually need it. Yes we want it for cars etc but we don't need cars we can walk to places. Yes transport is easier and me n everyone else prefers it but we won't die without oil it'll just be difficult without it, but when we find a renewable source or develop a non-oil running machines and cars we'll be fine
No it wont, because the oil isnt in a lake under the ground like most people think. The oil is stored in something called ';sandstone';. Its a type of rock with tiny holes in it and in those holes there are Oil. So it wont have any effect on our geology.
Hey! I read this article, it was on the first page of Yahoo! and some scientists have substituted diesel fuel with COFFEE! Look the article up, it is so interesting.

Oil and Gas extraction industry - Developments due to ';green issue';?

I would like to know how the whole ';going green'; debate has affected an invasive industry such as oil and gas extraction. Are there any innovations that make it less invasive? Any regulations that companies can only extract so much? Do oil extracting companies follow a code of conduct?Oil and Gas extraction industry - Developments due to ';green issue';?
Yes there is. There is some amazing work being done here in Alaska where oil is really the lifeblood of the state. We have many oil producers here and the strictest of environmental standards and highest expectations of the oil producers to be good stewards of our land. One of the ways the producers are helping to keep the impact to a minimum is called directional drilling. It's a method where they set up a drilling rig on a very small parcel of land (the average is 40 acres) and the drill with 3 to 8 drill bits from the same rig. They can make the bits go in different directions and even reach oil that is 20 miles or more off the coast under the north Pacific ocean from a platform on land. The oil producers also have major programs to study wildlife and have biologists who's job it is to work with the State and federal government to assure the operations do not have any adverse affect on caribou, birds, polar bears, fish and any other wildlife. Many people are cynical and bash these oil companies but I can tell you from first hand experience they work really hard to do the best possible job and take the environmental concerns very seriously here in Alaska. People who care for the environment should want oil produced here because it's done cleaner here than any other place in the world.Oil and Gas extraction industry - Developments due to ';green issue';?
    none whatsoever.

its all about you and me (the demand side of the equation). if we can reduce are use of fossil fuel then the oil and gas extraction people will not extract as much. however the population of the world is growing and the chinese and indians are starting to live like americans. the issue is PEAK OIL soon (right now), from what i hear, the pressure of oil underground is starting to go down so that means we wont be able to extract it as fast as we are right now. if this is indeed true then i think its fair to say that we are totally f***ed :)

enjoy life before heavy inflation and chaos hits
The lies of the greenies have caused price rises, shortages, and massive Additional costs of producing ENERGY.These nutters have no idea of the number of deaths their causing through green ideology.
some cars company's like Honda and Ford are trying to make car engines get a lot more millage with the gas.

For you the speed with which we extract oil is morally acceptable? There is some real risk to the environment and our health or are just conjecture?

p.s. know some relevant study about it?We should limit the extraction of oil?
Limiting the extraction of oil would increase prices and slow the economy - which is the last thing the Global Warming skeptics want and of course some political parties and the oil companies. There aren't enough alternatives out there yet that can be used over large areas - it isn't an economically viable option, yet.

Our hunger for oil is terrible, the US government authorized oil exploration and extraction in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska. The oil reserves is just a few months worth of supply for the US. This to me, is unacceptable, in areas of broad biodiversity and all of the already protected areas, there should definately be limited extraction of oil - limited to the point that it would illegal to mine in such areas.

More areas need to protected in North America certainly. Alaska may be oil rich but it's also the USA's last area of vast wildrness rich in biodiversity.

    Similar happens in Canada

There is great risk to the environment from such exploration of fossil fuels. I.e. Strip Mining the oil sands in Alberta Canada. Lush boreal forest is taken up (and I would hope the wood is used for house building) to expose the oil sands where the extraction begins.

Yes, I think there should be a limit on the extraction of oil, but until there is a viable alternative it is very unlikely to happen.

Relevant studies are listed in the sources below.

    Here are some facts:

Oil sands mining is licensed to use twice the amount of fresh water that the entire city of Calgary uses in a year.

    - At least 90% of the fresh water used in the oil sands ends up in ends up in tailing ponds so toxic that propane cannons are used to keep ducks from landing in them.

Processing the oil sands uses enough natural gas in a day to heat 3 million homes in Canada

The toxic tailing ponds are considered one of the largest human-made structures in the world. The ponds span 50 square kilometers and can be seen from space.

Producing a barrel of oil from the oil sands produces three times more greenhouse gas emissions than a barrel of conventional oil.We should limit the extraction of oil?
Alot of people who are to do with this industry, have said that there is LOADS of oil, and it won't be running out any time soon.

There's only one 'decent' argument, and it can't even be proved.

Which is the theory of global warming being linked with Carbon Dioxide.

As crude oil is a Hydrocarbon, fractioning it, cracking it, and burning it for fuel all release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Global warming, and carbon dioxide are supposedly linked, but it cannot be proved.

Something like 30% of the scientists involved with this debate don't believe it has any relevance to CO2.
We all have our own ideas about oil and its production. I for one wish the stuff was never discovered. Many millions have died over the stuff. Yes it is dangerous in many ways to the human, animal and plant life of the planet. More dangerous if it is in ones country and the bigwigs want it. It is a sad state of affairs.

The freshly grounded seeds are processed in this way:

    http://www.aromatherapy-essential-oils.o鈥?/a>

What are the methods and extractions of Rose oil?

There are three main methods: distillation, solvent extraction, and carbon dioxide extraction.

In distillation, roses and water are placed in a still, where the mixture is heated until the water vaporizes; the rose oil is released into the water and also vaporize. The vaporized water and rose oil are collected and condensed. The water is drained back off and distilled again to obtain parts of the oil that dissolve in water. The combined oil is called ';attar of roses.'; This method is quite ancient, but the use of heat changes the scent, making it dissimilar from that of fresh flowers.

    In solvent extraction, the roses are mixed with a solvent that dissolves the aromatic compounds as well as pigments and wax. The solvent is vacuumed up for re-use, leaving behind a waxy substance. This mass is mixed with alcohol, which dissolves only the aromatic compounds. The alcohol is then evaporated to secure the rose oil. This method preserves a greater portion of the substance of the flower and does not subject the oil to heat, so it is considered to be a more faithful rendering of the scent. This product is called ';rose absolute.';

    In carbon dioxide extraction, liquid CO2 at high pressure is used to dissolve out the aromatics. When the pressure is released, the CO2 immediately evaporates, leaving the rose oil behind. It's a very efficient process that faithfully preserves the scent of the flowers, but the equipment is expensive. This product can also be called an absolute, or sometimes ';CO2 extract.';

Oil of cloves to prevent dry socket after wisdom tooth extraction?

So I had all four wisdom teeth removed four days ago. Only one was emerged partway (an upper one) and was beginning to become abscessed. The lower two were impacted but not emerged (I believe these were the two ';full-bony'; the dentist was referring to). I was put to sleep so I have only recently had little enough swelling to actually view any of the extraction sites, and wouldn't you know...the dentists office is closed for thanksgiving till my post-op appt. Well anyway what I would like to know is first of all is it normal to not have any pain? The sites themselves have not been sore at all...only one area on the outside of my face that was bruised. I have not even taken any pain meds for nearly 48 hours and still nothing. I literally cannot even tell that anything is different on the top ones and the lower ones I can feel just because it is still a bit tender but not painful. I have read that most people have extreme pain after (especially without taking their meds religiously) but I have even been late on meds regularly since the surgery O.o. Not a problem obviously but I almost wonder if he even really took all four out I am that comfortable. So I was hoping someone could tell me why that may be.

The other question is when he finished the surgery he left some clove oil medication in the lower sockets to prevent dry socket. When I went back to see him he took out the old stuff and put in new medicine. So my question is is this common? Also how does this affect post-op recovery. I mean since there arent stitches. Any info on why the doc might opt to do this instead of stitch the holes up (does it have anything to do with how deep the teeth were or if there was bone that needed to be removed). Also does this mean I shouldnt let any kind of food come in contact with the site given that the hole is still open with the medicine in it, even though I am not in any pain and plenty able to chew. I am just trying to get a feel for how this treatment changes care requirements and also why he would choose to put this in only these two. I know I should ask him but it has only started really puzzling me today and he wont be back in the office till the morning I see him to have the medicine removed anyway (which is still a ways away). Thanks so much for any insight :DOil of cloves to prevent dry socket after wisdom tooth extraction?
I think those are valid questions you are asking. I just got my left lower wisdom tooth removed last Thursday. The other 3 were removed at different times in the past and I got a dry socket in all of them...not a good thing to have at all, as it is extremely painful. This last extraction, I was feeling pretty much like you're describing...no pain at all (after having lots of pain with the others), so even though I was very thankful I was comfortable, I was a bit puzzled. Until Day 4: different story altogether. After 3 days of feeling great, I started having severe pain in my left lower jaw, ear and left side of my neck. I KNEW it was a dry socket and called and made an appointment. The oral surgeon confirmed that it was and packed the socket with the clove oil medicine packing. It immediately started feeling better because the clove oil sort of ';anesthetizes'; the area. Now I have to go back in the morning to have it changed, then again on Friday. My surgeon says it must be changed every other day. I'm a bit puzzled as to why your surgeon put the clove oil in at the very beginning. I've never heard of it done that way...only in the event of dry socket. Incidentally, the clove oil doesn't PREVENT dry socket, it only makes it feel better if you get dry socket and helps with pain while it's healing. But they do say that the lower teeth are much more susceptible to getting a dry socket than the top, so perhaps your dentist/surgeon goes ahead and puts it in just in case. Not sure why he doesn't have you come in more frequently for changing. But I would say that's probably why you are so comfortable...the clove oil is helping ';deaden'; the sites so you can't feel it. I think if I were you, I would just call them tomorrow (Wednesday) since they are closed Thanksgiving, and ask your questions. Maybe you should try to get in tomorrow to have the packings changed. Oh, and I don't think normally they suture the sockets up unless there was alot of surgical trauma to the sites. It's best to leave the sockets open so you can flush out with salt water every day and keep clean. They will close in with time. (Of course, if you have clove oil packings, you won't flush with salt water, but surely you will start doing that once they are removed.)

Good luck with your recovery. I'm happy for you that you aren't in any pain.Oil of cloves to prevent dry socket after wisdom tooth extraction?
Good for you. dry sockets are extremely painful. the clove medicine if removed will expose the nerve/gum and it will be painful. almost nothing helps until socket is covered . motrin helps. ask dds in am or next appt.

Can someone walk me throught a supercritical fluid extraction with co2 to extract essential oils for perfume?

Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction uses carbon dioxide under extremely high pressure to extract essential oils. Plants are placed in a stainless steel tank and, as carbon dioxide is injected into the tank, pressure inside the tank builds. Under high pressure, the carbon dioxide turns into a liquid and acts as a solvent to extract the essential oils from the plants. When the pressure is decreased, the carbon dioxide returns to a gaseous state, leaving no residues behind.

Many carbon dioxide extractions have fresher, cleaner, and crisper aromas than steam-distilled essential oils, and they smell more similar to the living plants. Scientific studies show that carbon dioxide extraction produces essential oils that are very potent and have great therapeutic benefits. This extraction method uses lower temperatures than steam distillation, making it more gentle on the plants. It produces higher yields and makes some materials, especially gums and resins, easier to handle. Many essential oils that cannot be extracted by steam distillation are obtainable with carbon dioxide extraction. In the future, many botanicals that are not now available may possibly be obtained through carbon dioxide extraction.

distillation ~glasswareIs there anywhere I can buy the necessary tools to use for steam distillation (for extraction of essential oil
yes, but they are expensive 250-higher. just google it. steam distilling is hard. you really need allot of flowers are whatever. also sometimes using water doesn't work being that particular plant needs a hotter temp to extract. just google it you'll find what your looking for.

its called a steam distiller, with a 2 liter bio flask. you need a pump and other glass flasks that come in a kit. and a burnerIs there anywhere I can buy the necessary tools to use for steam distillation (for extraction of essential oil
Steam distillation can be done at home, but be aware that you are going to get very little essential oil and a lot of hydrosol. Home stills are available for purchase, but if you are handy and so inclined...you can build your own. The idea is that plant material and water are boiled, the steam is captured and condensed and allowed to collect in another vessel. A large pot with a lid that fits well so that the steam is only allowed to escape through a hole that is fitted with tubing that travels through a cold water bath or ice. (This is where the steam condenses to fluid) This 'water' is collected in a vessel, mostly hydrosol with the essential oil floating on the top.

CH Imports, Stove Stills and Extractor in Quebec should be still offering home distillation equipmenet for sale.
It is not worth your time or effort.

It often takes anwhere from 200 poounds to 1 1/2 tons (3000 pounds) of the herbs to get 1 fluid ounce of pure essential oil.

When you factor in the leagal headaches, and the cost of the herbs, it is acually cheaper to buy the essential oils in the first place.

We extraction of oil and water from under ground .Could this be the reasen for the frequent earthquakes?

An earthquake is a sudden and sometimes catastrophic movement of a part of the Earth's crust. Earthquakes result from the dynamic release of elastic strain energy that radiates seismic waves. Earthquakes typically result from the movement of faults, planar zones of deformation within the Earth's upper crust. The word earthquake is also widely used to indicate the source region itself. The Earth's lithosphere is a patch work of plates in slow but constant motion . Earthquakes occur where the stress resulting from the differential motion of these plates exceeds the strength of the crust. The highest stress (and possible weakest zones) are most often found at the boundaries of the tectonic plates and hence these locations are where the majority of earthquakes occur. Events located at plate boundaries are called interplate earthquakes; the less frequent events that occur in the interior of the lithospheric plates are called intraplate earthquakes (see, for example, New Madrid Seismic Zone). Earthquakes related to plate tectonics are called tectonic earthquakes.

    Causes Of earthquakes:

Most earthquakes are powered by the release of the elastic strain that accumulates over time, typically, at the boundaries of the plates that make up the Earth's lithosphere via a process called Elastic-rebound theory. The Earth is made up of tectonic plates driven by the heat in the Earth's mantle and core. Where these plates meet stress accumulates. Eventually when enough stress accumulates, the plates move, causing an earthquake. Deep focus earthquakes, at depths of hundreds of kilometres, are possibly generated as subducted lithospheric material catastrophically undergoes a phase transition since at the pressures and temperatures present at such depth elastic strain cannot be supported.

Some earthquakes are also caused by the movement of magma in volcanoes, and such quakes can be an early warning of volcanic eruptions. A rare few earthquakes have been associated with the build-up of large masses of water behind dams, such as the Kariba Dam in Zambia, Africa, and with the injection or extraction of fluids into the Earth's crust (at certain geothermal power plants and at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal). Such earthquakes occur because the strength of the Earth's crust can be modified by fluid pressure. Earthquakes have also been known to be caused by the removal of natural gas from subsurface deposits, for instance in the northern Netherlands. Finally, ground shaking can also result from the detonation of explosives. We extraction of oil and water from under ground .Could this be the reasen for the frequent earthquakes?

  • What are the differences between alcohol-, water and oil-based extractions of medicinal herbs?

In terms of the method involved, temperature etc, and the type of active ingredients that are extracted. What are the differences between alcohol-, water and oil-based extractions of medicinal herbs?
Most chemicals can be dissolved in one of those solvents.

Vitamin C is soluble in water, Vitamin A and E are soluble in oil and vanilla is soluble in alcohol. By treating a plant with one of these solvents you will extract different substances.

If you attempt to extract vanilla by dissolving the bean in water you will not get the results you desire.

In attempting to extract an active substance from an herb, the scientist needs to know what solvent will work on the substance and then uses the appropriate solvent to accomplish the task. What are the differences between alcohol-, water and oil-based extractions of medicinal herbs?
    That just kind of depends.

Some compounds, like some active ingredients in medicinal herbs, are ONLY oil or fat solulable; sometimes to make the extraction the herb will simply be placed in a bottle oil for an extended period of time, and sometimes the oil will be heated with the herb in it.

Similarly, some compounds are only alcohol solulable, or only water solulable, and depending on the herb, the method changes. Does this make sense?

Crude oil extraction and geo thermal impact?

As i am looking at my portable oil filled electric space heater it dawns on me: does the amount of crude oil we have extracted directly upset the balance of cooling the oil provided against rising heat from the earths core?do we have a double whammy in this action? did the accumulative movement of oil in the earths mantle help disperse and relocate heat much like our sweating and blood stream? Does the absence of trillions of barrels and it's volume and viscosity have this effect. is there research on this?

if this plausible or probable and we further the effect by burning the oil and making pollution what have we really done?

    just wondering?

OsoCrude oil extraction and geo thermal impact?
The extraction of crude oil from the surface of the earth has really no effect upon the rate of heat produced from the earth's core. Yes, the crude oil is warm when it flows from the earth but this amount of heat is insignificant compared to what flows over all and think about the heat released by a volcano and you will realize that these things like the hot oil will not be nearly as large as what is released regularly by volcanoes and geothermal hot spots.Crude oil extraction and geo thermal impact?
I don't think it does anything to the planet's core since that part is hot due to other chemical reactions, but the fact that we are extracting oil and gas which is found at very high pressure and temperatures MUST have some kind of impact, earthquakes, volcanic activity or something (I guess) Report Abuse

Assume the oil begins to run out and that extraction becomes more expensive. Trace through the effects of t?

Sorry, but this is an extremely complex issue. The short answer is :

    1. Extreme rapid rise in commodity prices of energy.

    2. Insufficient capital to develop new alternative forms of energy that had benn historically uncompetitive.

    3. Inability to actually identify alternative energies that do not have severe environmental impacts.

    4. Lack of Energy to fuel economic growth in manufacturing and exports, mineral extraction , production of food, heat for homes and health, provision of potable water.

    5. Complete economic collapse, anarchy and war.

    6. Eventual economic stability at a GDP level which might be a fraction of what current GDP growth is (0.5-1.0%)

    7. A world with about 1/2 of its current population.

This of course is predicated on a world without a revolutionary new fuel type which has hitherto not been discovered!

I firmly believe that much of the AGW hysteria, currently being fueled by governments themselves, is based on a desire to alter the ';free market'; distribution of energy sources (which highly favor fossil fuels due to their efficiency) through time. They wish to bring alternatives which are uneconomic, forward in time so as to mitigate the effects that I mention. This is a very fundamental economicc flaw, which will actually exacerbate problems exponentially!

The fluids generally flow from the reservoir using only reservoir pressure, individual wells are controlled by chokes. The fluids then flow to separation, either 2-phase (gas/liquids) or 3-phase (gas/liquid hydrocarbons/water), and in one or more steps (High pressure %26gt; medium pressure %26gt; low pressure).

The gas can then be conditioned by various means, compressed, and exported either as a gas or as LNG, depending on the requirements, hydrocarbon liquids are exported by pumping down a pipeline, or by tanker. Water is generally cleaned up to %26lt;40mg/kg residual hydrocarbon, and dumped to sea.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but it's a big subject, and can't really be covered in a couple of paragraphs - my last technical interview took a couple of hours, and that was carried out by guys who knew me and were fully aware I already knew the basic stuff.

  • Can liquid paraffin oil be used as the non-polar solvent in an acid-base extraction?

I havn't been able to find any info about the dielectric constant of liquid paraffin oil. Therefore I have little knowledge about the usefulness of the oil in these kinds of processes. In the extraction the paraffin oil would be used for removing the non-polar organic waste from a HCl-water solution and should contain all useless organic material. Can liquid paraffin oil be used as the non-polar solvent in an acid-base extraction?
While somewhat awkward in terms of what is normally done, it would work. The difference is in a normal lab question, the objective is to isolate an organic compound from inorganic or very polar organic compounds and isolate the organic compound. In the case of using a liquid paraffin as in paraffin wax, the high mw of the paraffin would make isolation of the organic matter more difficult.

If you are using paraffin in the ';Chemistry old-fashioned term for alkane';, then sure and it is only the form of your question that leads to confusion.

About oil extraction with the use of hexane...?

It being a pollutant out of the question...can I extract oil from seeds by grinding the seeds then putting them in a filter paper that is in a funnel whose mouth is inside an erlenmeyer flask?

I'm going to use the resulting oil as a sample to test it against a kind of bacteria...(my paper's objective is just to know if the extract as an anti-bacterial substance is feasible)...will I get significant results?

About oil extraction with the use of hexane...?
Doubtful. Hexane is a very non-polar solvent. You likely will not extract much material in any one washing.

For doing this kind of extraction, there is a device called a Soxhlet extractor. This can be run continuously over a number of days and continuously washes the sample with a small quantity of solvent. However, a Soxhlet extractor is modestly expensive and you likely would need an organic chemistry lab to do the experiment. It isn't particularly complicated and I have done such experiments.

You can use a stronger solvent like acetone, methyl ethyl ketone or ethyl acetate. However, you may extract more than the essential oils that you wish.

If you don't have access to an organic chemistry lab, I might suggest that you contact a local college. They might be able and willing to help you.

My concern is that you would get negative results not because your basic idea is bad but because you didn't extract enough of the material of interest.

Scientists now believe that due to global warming, oil extraction will be made easier in the Arctic.?

Five countries: United States, Canada, Denmark, Russia, and Sweeden (I think) are making plans to begin drilling there in the near future. Has anyone considered that once they extract more oil, and turn it into gasoline and other fuel-burning products, that they'll be heating-up the planet even more? Where is the sense in that?Scientists now believe that due to global warming, oil extraction will be made easier in the Arctic.?
There is nothing ';now'; about this. Scientists (geophysicists) did the seismic research a long time ago in the 70s when the price of oil peaked. At that time Canada began to utilize these sites but then pulled back out when the price of oil dropped back down. Unfortunately it's simply an economic equation and less ice and high oil prices = easier drilling and more profits.Scientists now believe that due to global warming, oil extraction will be made easier in the Arctic.?
The whole planet will turn to molten lava and all 7-11s will be destroyed. Mankind has been in control of Earth's temperature for the last 750,000 years. I'm so sad that they want to drill in the Arctic. What will the Saudis do? I'll bet they will have a fit. Al Gore said the Saudis, due to global warming, will have to move to either New Zealand or Norway. How will that pan out? ts
Great news! This world is really starving for energy and developing countries in continents like Africa are really demanding it just to be able to have basic services we take for granted in the United States. You base your entire argument in propaganda; don't believe scare mongers like Al Gore. The idea that man made CO2 is the cause of global warming is so extremely weak I don't even know where to start. Relax and be happy. At least the price at the pump will be coming down soon. Hope we find a lot of oil...
Money is the driving factor here.
Unfortunately I think TG is right.
They are obviously competing for the territory, not so much for the oil. It was reported that Russia planted state flags on the islands to claim that they were part of its territory.
Obviously there's no sense in it, but we're going to depend on fossil fuels until the Earth runs dry, and then epic chaos will ensue. Of course, this is just my prediction, but it's certainly headed in that direction.
The entire world's economy runs on fossil fuel. Conservation is great, researching alternatives is great, but right now, we need the oil. Unless we're prepared to just shut the whole thing down and let everybody starve in the cold and the dark, we'll be burning lots of fossil fuels for a long time to come.
25% of the world's oil is supposed to be locked in the Arctic.

Not only will it be easier to extract the oil there but the melting ice will open new North-West sea passages which will make a lot of trade routes shorter.
Well....once the money's been made, they can then research alternatives, because then there'll be no choice.
They wont find any oil there, It won't make any difference if they did because nobody cares about where the oil they buy comes from.
Even if we conserve and reduce CO2, we will need oil. The Ice caps thaw every 10,000 years are so. We need to get all the oil we can while it is thawed out. It will freeze over again just like it always has.

To purify the oil you can use a separatory funnel and separate using an inorganic solvent. Use the organic layer (normally the bottom layer but to test take a small sample and mix with water on a dish, the aqueous layer will be soluble in water of course and the other layer is the organic layer (the oil)). To form the powder you can heat the oil (organic layer) over a heat bath and then crystallize in an ice bath. You can recrystallize by repeating the heating and cooling steps or not. To dry the product you can let sit for a day or 2 or you can do a suction filtration. Hope this helps!!

Some cheaper oils and some essential oils, used for making perfume, are extracted by heating and evaporation or with solvents. The solvent is then separated from the oil by evaporation.

No. Oil output is actually lower than it was before the war. Oil pipelines are consistantly bombed by insurgents and protecting their entire length is very difficult. Not that I can tell. The price of gasoline for our cars has tripled sense this all started.
    ABSOLUTELY NOT !

    No. Not in the slightest.

Since it's obviously not an either/or question, the answer is No. The land is too war torn for oil extraction to be as safe as it was, since the government in their country no longer has the major control of oil with the guns to protect it.
i do , when the usa and its allies, invaded iraq one of the military objectives was to secure the oil fields and pipe lines. so if they are not benefiting from it. why secure it 24/7.

Will the extraction of oil, gas, fossil fuels and minerals eventually make the earth lighter+effect rotation?

    NO!

The stuff we take out of the ground doesn't make the world lighter because it doesn't disappear it is just moved. Its like saying that a filling cabinet is lighter because you took the stuff out of the drawers and set it on top of the cabinet. The mass of the earth includes the gases in our atmosphere, so even if you turn solids into a gas it is still a closed system so nothing can leave and therefore the mass cannot decrease. Will the extraction of oil, gas, fossil fuels and minerals eventually make the earth lighter+effect rotation?
You better be 5 years old if you're asking a question like this...The hole in the ozone layer refers to UV rays being able to penetrate our atmosphere and give you and me skin cancer, ozone blocks UV rays, so if there is a hole, UV rays can pass freely. Report Abuse
Will the extraction of oil, gas, fossil fuels and minerals eventually make the earth lighter+effect rotation?
If there was an actual hole up there that gas could escape through, then all the gas would escape at one, including air and we would all die. However, even this concept is stupid because gas cannot escape a planet because it is held there by gravity. Go back to school and study some more. Report Abuse

no becuase is comparison to the mass and density of the earth, the mass and density of these fuels is next to nothing. also, as they are not efficient, most of the waste goes back in to the earths atmosphere
    No.

We pull those things out of the ground, but they're still on Earth. Their mass hasn't gone anywhere. Besides, the amount that we mine/pump is extremely tiny compared with the total mass of the Earth.
They can't escape past the atmosphere, hence they are still within the earth's mass.

    Good thought though =p

Hi- I have actually been involved in a business that was producing natural floral extracts from Jasmine, Sambak, tube rose %26amp; even marie-gold for the perfumery and food coloring markets in Europe.Solvent extraction is a technik of extracting or capturing the essences/fragnances/natural colors or such subtle aspects from natural substances using a suitable solvent (like say acetone). Now Super critical extraction process is popular in use with large companies that can afford intial capital investment,as the extraction efficiency is better with some process cost advantages. No body will endeavour to provide you with information on Costs, etc, unless you make yourself clear on your objectives/motives.Reach me %26lt;skn8700@yahoo.co.in%26gt;.

What is the amount of oil and flowers used in the process of maceration-extraction?

Or does the amount not matter? What's the ratio? For example, if I have 1 cup of oil, should I also use 1 cup of chopped flowers? What is the amount of oil and flowers used in the process of maceration-extraction?
The amount of herbal material varies with the contents of essential oil in the plants. In the middle you need for every cup of oil 1/4 of an ounce of herbs. In this publication you also find the extraction methods. But it`s better to take a non smelling oil instead of olive oil to keep the aroma of extract pure.

    http://aftermathblog.wordpress.com/2006/鈥?/a>

If there is a very little content of essential oil in the flower or herb you want to extract, you can use the method of ';enfleurage';, a specific kind of maceration:

    http://www.essential-oil-recipes.com/ess鈥?/a> http://www.deancoleman.com/whatareoils.h鈥?/a> a very gentle but time-consuming way.

To your second question: In my opinion the significance of perfume changes with people using it, like the scents changing their aroma with the skin they are put on.

Most people use it to accent their personality, their lifestyle, some believe, it could attract other peoples, some simply enjoy it by themselves.

I`m sure, it`s history explains it much better than me:

    Ya, a 1:1 w/v or v/v should be O.K.

If you are not getting enough coverage,

then can increase to a 2:1 solvent to plant ratio.

Probably don't need to exceed 3:1.

    Dry flowers will grind better.

Yep. You might as well ask if olives are harmed when making olive oil. They put the whole fish through a big processor. You can get vegetarian omega-3 oils made from algae though if that is your concern. For fish oil extraction , are fishes killed ?
I'm sure it's from dead fish. Don't worry about it too much - be thankful that at least fish processers find a way to use every bit of the fish with minimal going to waste. They grind up the unusable bits to make fish food for other fish too :D
i would think so cos we dont liposuct them.

dont worry abt it tho. there are lots of fish in the sea and its not like we kill them just for the oil the rest it wasted. the whole fish is eaten.
I would think the stress from that would definitely kill them. Why do you need to do this? You can go to your local health food store and buy fish oil supplements.

Was 2005 the year of peak world oil extraction?

I don't think anyone can claim that.

What is clear is that we're approaching that time, and that demand is rising faster than supply. So oil will get very expensive. Good book:

http://www.amazon.com/End-Oil-Edge-Peril鈥?/a>Was 2005 the year of peak world oil extraction?
Probably not . China is starting to get cars and also India. That is a possibility of 2 billion people . Our 300 million is nothing. Was 2005 the year of peak world oil extraction?
Doubtful. A peak implies that future information is currently known. The total amount of known petroleum reserves is dependent upon price. For example, the tar sands deposits in Alberta are estimated to have more oil than the Middle East. But, it costs about four times as much per barrel to extract these. History has shown that predictions of ';running out of oil'; and ';peak years'; have been made often over the past forty years only to be proved wrong. As the price of oil has risen so have the amount of reserves so it is logical that the peak Peak Year is still into the future and will only be known using hindsight.
Only for some countries, such as Saudi Arabia. Many expect 2008 will be the peak year of oil extraction, although some believe it may come as late as 2018.

The ';green issue';. Interesting turn of phrase. Taken literally we would be back to the horse and cart and still worrying about methane emissions from the horse. We have to realise that if we want the benefits of progress we have to accept a downside. There isn't much in our lives that doesn't involve pollution of some sort or another. I agree that harmful pollution should be tackled with vigour, but this 'green' bandwagon has become ridiculous. The politicians see it as a vote catcher as there are many gullible voters who will support anything perceived to be 'green' without considering the implications.

Whoever coined the phrase 'carbon footprint' should be shot. It is the sort of 'holier than though' attitude that makes me sick.

Back to your question. How much extra would you be prepared to pay for your gas and electricity if the companies you refer to had regulation to cope with? Also why are you selecting out this type of industry? What about rain forest destruction? If you have ever bought or sat at a hardwood table and chairs, you are party to it.

Ecologically friendly solutions to oil extraction?

The issue of ever-rising gas prices and the constant search for new sources of oil and energy is an important issue worldwide, and is of particular importance in North America, both physically and politically. Across North and South America there are various reserves of oil sands, such as the Athabasca Oil Sands in Alberta. There are many negative environmental impacts to draining these sorts of oil reserves. You want political reason or physical reasons? Environmental pollution caused by extraction processes. Drilling mud, and pollution when the components are manufactured.

Transport....cost, large tankers cause massive environmental damage if they ';leak'; after a collision, some unscrupulous ';captains'; wash their tanks at sea and cause ';slicks';. Pipelines used to transport oil can be tampered with or fracture causing environmental problems.

We should limit the extraction of oil?

For you the speed with which we extract oil is morally acceptable? There is some real risk to the environment and our health or are just conjecture?

Liberal nonsense for the most part. Yes pollution is ';killing the planet,'; but we are at the point that regardless of how much Americans, Canadians, and Australians reduce their consumption, China and India will surely negate that tenfold as they continue to consume those resources like a pig at a buffet.

You could take public transport, that is if it were not crap in most major cities and full of the weirdest people. Unfortunately, the due to the lack of interest in public transport, in many cities it remained under developed and practically useless for most people. Further, if a lot of people suddenly decided to dispense with using their cars and using pubic transport, the fees will surely rise... supply 7 demand.

Anyway, I like my car, which is the reason I spent so much money on it. Its fast, looks good, expensive to service and buy fuel for, and I can give a crap less that it is.

How is n-Hexane used in the extraction of soybean oil?

Basicly what im asking is; how is soybean oil extracted using n-Hexane? I mean the process. An answer or a good link would be great.

thanksHow is n-Hexane used in the extraction of soybean oil?
The soybeans are ground to a meal and rolled into flakes.

The flaked meal is treated with n-Hexane (as a solvent) to extract the oil.

The n-Hexane is separated from the meal by filtration or centrifugation.

The solvent is then remove by evaporation at a reduced pressure and re-cycled into a new batch of meal. The soybean oil is then purified.

Some methods extract the n-Hexane solution with water based chemicals to help purify the product.

Some soybean oil extraction methods do not use n-Hexane, but instead use physical means to crush the beans and ';press'; the oil for separation.

Could the result of the rising waters actually be the earth getting smaller from the extraction of oil?

Is there enough oil to affect the earth in this way over time?

If you agree that oil is the only resource not being replaced by mass as its a liquid being turned to gas, wouldnt this theory answer a few questions better than the global warming perspective?

If the earth is growing smaller wouldnt it explain a lot of things about extreme weather patterns, as there is simply less mass for the sun to heat up than when the earth was slightly bigger or could it be a slight destortion of the earths shape as oil is extracted from the same areas over years,

affecting the rotation of the earth affecting the axis it spins on in relation to the sun.Could the result of the rising waters actually be the earth getting smaller from the extraction of oil?
Petroleum is stored in porous, permeable formations deep below the surface. Even when the petroleum is not replaced by some other fluid, the formations, though porous, are rigid, and their dimensions are not changed significantly when oil is removed.

Coal is a different matter. Eighty years ago, coal companies removed all the coal except for intermittent pillars and then sold the pillars to the people whose houses were located on the surface above them. No, they can't do that any longer.Could the result of the rising waters actually be the earth getting smaller from the extraction of oil?
There have been enough measurements of glaciers and ice caps to determine that the reduction in these is the primary cause of rising waters.
    No

Remember that many oil extraction companies pump slurries (including water) back into the hole. So water should be ';shrinking'; too.

More importantly, the hole would have to collapse and we'd be able to measure that seismically. It is a very rare event.

Finally, plants turn the gases back into solid (leaves and such), so not all the gas is ';lost';.

  • How are pipeline losses calculated during extraction of oil from oil-wells?

Hmm. If they are calculated, it's probably a rough, simple, and conservative calculation. Oilwells are not run as scientifically as you might think...a lot of times it's 'Try pumping harder' rather than 'Let me try and calculate this again'.

What fills the void we leave after oil extraction?

And what effect does this have on our environment, global warming, etc.?What fills the void we leave after oil extraction?
Hi. Water or steam is pumped into the well to 'float' the oil to the top, I believe. http://www.fossil.energy.gov/education/e鈥?/a>What fills the void we leave after oil extraction?
    raw sewage I think
depends on the oil reservoir. usually oil is trapped in interstitial spaces that are essentailly gaps in sand/rock. usually they are not completely emptied, but in any event, those gaps remain, but may later be filled with sub-surface water. no effect either way on momma earth
It is filled with salt water ,and there is no green house gas.
Some believe that Earth actually produces Oil. It is not a fossilized fuel and wells in Long abanonded Texas Oil fields are filling up again
    Sometimes nothing fills the void.

Sometimes companies pump high pressure salt water down the well, to force more oil to the surface. They leave the salt water down there.

Just leaving an empty oil well, or one filled with salt water has little impact on the environment -- in of itself.

After wells run dry, sometimes they cap the wells off with concrete, but that's not always the case.

    ----------------------

I answered you question as it was worded, but...

THIS might be what you are looking for:

When they DRILL a new well, laws require that concrete (grout, actually) lines the walls of the well hole wherever drinkable water exists underground, to seal the drinking water off from contamination.

Example: the oil well is 2000 feet deep, but there is drinkable water at 200 feet. The drill company drills down to 300 feet and pumps grout into the hole, lining it. They wait for it to dry, then they continue drilling down to the oil at 2000 feet. When the oil comes up, it won't get into the drinking water supply.

Does the long-term extraction of oil and minerals pose a problem for the planet's crust stability?

I just read that the brazilian government has found 8 billion barrels of crude oil of the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

How does leaving it there seem like a good idea to me?

What does the oil do as it stands - is it helping?Does the long-term extraction of oil and minerals pose a problem for the planet's crust stability?
oil n minerals are nature's gift to man, there is no way it will harm the earth.Does the long-term extraction of oil and minerals pose a problem for the planet's crust stability?
    You are absolutely correct!

If we continue at this rate the surface of the earth will collapse to a depth of 1.856 km by the year 2018.

    Better learn how to swim.

Ridiculous! Drill rigs pump pressurized sea water into the wells to squeeze the oil out of the rock and force it to the surface. No voids exist in oil wells.

As for mining...ever been in a subway? The one in New York is three levels deep. If you are in a fault zone you are not safe on the surface much less underground.
and finally, our activities are barely a scratch on the skin so it really doesn't affect the crust on a global scale, although local collapse has occurred from mining of coal, for example, and extraction of groundwater and oil resources has resulted in localized subsidence in some places, although not very common or a huge hazard in most instances.
Extraction of natural resources pose all kinds of environmental problems and dangers. But if you are thinking of the earth's crust collapsing because we've pumped the oil out, it will not happen. For a start, most of the effects will be localised, and also, when they extract the oil, they pump water into the wells, mainly to force the remaining oil out.
I was taught that, if the Earth was the size of an orange, the deepest mine would only be the relevant thickness of its skin. So mining will have little effect other than mentioned above. DB

  • The earths weight is decreasing due to oil extraction?

If we are extracting oil and other natural resources out of the earth, doesnt this technically decrease earths weight? If so, what effect does it have it on the earths gravitational pull? With the amount of oil that is being extracted and water that is being dried up, in theory wouldnt this have an effect? The earths weight is decreasing due to oil extraction?
Nah, all that burned up oil is falling on my car and making it dirty... bastards... Time for another car wash....The earths weight is decreasing due to oil extraction?
Well, no. the mass is still in the system, just mostly in the atmosphere. There are losses from the atmosphere which are immediately made up because the orbit of earth is a very thin gas torus, and the gas shares the same orbit.

Now as the polar caps melt will that have an effect? For the arctic, no because the ice is already displacing water, but for the antarctic, yes there will be a sea level rise, perhaps 8 to 10 meters. redistributing all that mass away from the axis of rotation WILL have an effect on another system, the length of the day.

And that effect may in turn generate a new age of vulcanism.
yes, some thermal energy is lost in the system when you burn the fuel when you convert oil to energy.

minimal effect on earths gravity pull since the earth is so massive. even if you dry up the oceans you hardly effect gravity. by conservation of momentum, in theory if you jump, earth also moves away from you, but you really see earth not moving.

yes, in theory, maybe to the 1 millionth decimal place. you will still use 9.81 instead of 9.8100000....1 in your physics problem.
I wouldn't think so cause 1) the earth is freakin' huge and 2) all that carbon dioxide and water vapor is going into the atmosphere. Hardly any goes into the vacuum of space.
oil isn't holding the earth in place. wouldn't the same theory go for the extra things that are being created (ex. cars, planes, buses, etc.)
Are you relating this to GMM/R^2?

Could crude oil be whats keeping our earth from melting from the inside out? Does it not act as an insulator? Is it possible that global warming is actually the many years of crude oil extraction from the earth?
    No.

Oil is formed in pockets of organic sediments under heat and pressure, but there are VERY few places that are ideal for the creation of oil. It's not like one huge layer all around the world that holds oil.Is it possible that global warming is actually the many years of crude oil extraction from the earth?
There isn't enough oil in the earth's crust to insulate the outside crust from the mantle. Oil is only found in small pockets (relative to the size of the earth) in very few areas. Simply extracting it does not change the ability of the mantle heat to move upward toward the crust. As you see in volcanoes, if the heat from the mantle wants out, it just comes out, there is nothing that can stop it.
Very unlikley. Besides Man made global warming is a THEORY.

Here is an article that discusses this...

Global warming is caused by the Sun.

What solvents should be used for oil extraction?

I read that the use of solvents in oil extraction in seeds and plants yields more product. But I don't know what solvents to use for oilseed extraction. Help please. Thank you very much! ^_^What solvents should be used for oil extraction?
First, solvent extractions of anything are not something you should be attempting at home. Solvent extraction can be a dangerous, messy process. The most commonly used solvent for commercial fat extraction is hexane. Acetone is not a good enough solvent and chlorinated solvents cannot be used because they are carcinogenic. Although hexane has some toxicity the concentrations in the extracted fats are too low to be a significant health threat. The other advantage in hexane is economic. Hexane is relatively cheap and it has high volatility so that recovery and reuse of the solvent makes it economically attractive. What solvents should be used for oil extraction?
There seems to be some mistake. Ethanol is completely miscible with water in all proportions. Otherwise how can one have a whiskey and water? If any thing, it is quite hydrophilic.

Probably it was trichloroethylene or such chlorinated solvent that was meant, which are also used for solvent extraction.

Ketonic solvents are quite suitable and used in the industry. Acetone is the first of the series. It also boils at a low enough temperature so that solvent recovery without heat damage to the oil is easy.
    you could use 95% ethanol. Since it has a hydrophobic property, it binds with the oils. Also since the oil is hydrophobic one, it goes with the scientific quote saying: ';Like dissolves like';
